ACX1 STUDIOS, ATLANTIC CITY

BRIEF HISTORY

Originally known as the Million Dollar Pier, it operated from 1906 to 1981, followed by the Ocean One shopping mall pier from 1983 to 2003. In 2006, the pier was reborn as The Pier Shops at Caesars, later renamed the Playground Pier in 2015. However, despite hosting upscale stores like Tourneau, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, it faced challenges, leading to a decline in occupancy rates and earning the unfortunate moniker of a “dead mall.”

Fast forward to 2023, when the pier underwent a remarkable revival, reopening as ACX1 Studios. This dynamic space combines retail, restaurants, entertainment, educational areas, and crucially, film production studios. The studio aims to capitalize on South Jersey-specific film tax credits, attracting major film companies and actors to the area. With up to 150 sets, ACX1 Studios plans to create a bustling hub for television and film production. Interestingly, they intend to utilize existing features—such as old restaurants—for filming scenes, provided they remove any signage. Conveniently located near filming, editing, and crew lodging facilities, ACX1 Studios aspires to transform Atlantic City into the “Hollywood of the East”
